Over 120 surfers from eight Districts and three Provinces participated in the 34th edition of the Sea Harvest Grommet Games in different conditions at each of the venues over the weekend March 14th & 15th).
The Western Cape Grommet Games featured girls and boys from Cape Town, Winelands and Eden Districts and took place in onshore, testing conditions on Saturday, as strong onshore winds created extremely blustery surf. By Sunday the wind had eased, delivering fun two- to three-foot waves which allowed the competitors to really enjoy themselves and showcase their surfing.
Standout performances in the Western Cape event came from Under 8 Boys surfer Phumlisa Madiavula, who scored an excellent 8.67 in the final, and Jack Stringer, who delivered two exceptional rides in Round 1, earning scores of 9.83 and 9.33.

The Eastern Cape Grommet Games featured teams from Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay and was held on Saturday March 14th took place on Saturday at Nahoon Beach in East London. Conditions were ideal throughout the day and the vibe on the beach was fantastic, with both surfers and parents enthusiastically supporting their teams throughout the day. Standout surfers included Alexander Smith and Samuel Venter in the Under 10 Boys division, Kai Hare in the Under 16 Boys, and Jordan Van Eek in the Under 16 Girls.

On Day One of the KwaZulu-Natal Grommet Games surfers from Ugu, eThekweni and iLembe Districts had to deal with bumpy and difficult conditions with onshore winds as well as blue bottles. Despite the tough conditions, the competitors gave it their all and inspired everyone on the beach.One of the standout moments came in the Under 12 Boys division, where Simlindile Shali delivered a memorable performance as the underdog in the final.
On Day Two conditions had improved and surfers enjoyed clean two-foot waves and used this opportunity to showcase their skills. The vibe on the beach was electric, with parents often appearing even more excited than the competitors themselves.

The most memorable aspect of the weekend at each of the three venues across the country was the incredible stoke on the beach. Young surfers not only supported one another but formed new friendships and embraced the spirit of surfing, making the Sea Harvest Grommet Games supported by the Department of Sport Arts & Culture a true celebration of youth surfing in South Africa.
