Selection Criteria for the South African Open Surfing Team 2023

2023 ISA World Surfing Games, Surf City El Salvador, 30 May – 7 June.

Team size:

1 x Manager

1 x Coach

3 x Open Male Surfers

3 x Open Female Surfers

Hierarchy of selection for Male and Female Surfers:

1. World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (C.T.) ratings. The Highest placed South African surfer on the C.T. will be selected first in order of Ratings.
2. W.S.L Challenger Series (CS) ratings. If the South African team slots are not filled from the C.T., then the highest rated South African surfers on the C.S. will be selected.
3. Transformation: At least 1 Transformation surfer will be represented in the South African Open Male team, and at least 1 Transformation surfer will be represented in the South African Open Female Team. The Highest rated Transformation surfers according to our Hierarchy of selection for both male and female will be Selected for the South African Open Surfing team.

Management and Coaches:

Its a requirement that at least 50% of the management and Coaching team are Transformation.
