Scottburgh, South Coast, KZN – The Rip Curl GromSearch Scottburgh, presented by Sea Harvest and supported by The Cutty Sark Hotel, will take place over the weekend of 13-15 June at the renowned right-hand sand-bottom point break of Scottburgh on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Entries are open HERE.

Scottburgh is a premier surf spot on the south coast, perfectly suited for high-performance surfing from the best junior surfers in the country. Firing right-handers, barrel sections, lips to hit, faces to gouge. It’s a perfect canvas for the best junior surfers to light up at this stage of the competitive year. The events at Scottburgh are always some of the most popular on the calendar as the prime waves combine with warm water and the agreeable KZN climate.

June is always a good month for waves on the South Coast, and expectations are high for this event. Premier Resort Cutty Sark in Scottburgh has partnered with Rip Curl and is supporting the event. Over the years, Premier Resort Cutty Sark has strongly supported the sport of surfing.

The Rip Curl Grom Search Series recognises the U16 Division as the Premier Division. Scottburgh is the third contest in the four-part Rip Curl GromSearch series that will culminate at the final contest in Cape St Francis in September to decide the winners of the Premier U16 Boys and U16 Girls divisions. Final rankings are calculated with the surfers’ top three results out of the four contests. These two champions will win a berth in the Rip Curl GromSearch International Finals.

Current Top Surfers

As an indicator, the current top surfers in the SAST U16 Boys Division are Ben Esterhuyse and Kai Stubbs, while in the U16 Girls Division, Leah Lepront and Emily Jenkinson are currently at the top. Being a local surfer, Leah Lepront has a hometown advantage for this event.

The Rip Curl GromSearch Series is not just about the U16 division, though. It comprises U12, U14, U16 and U18 Girls and Boys divisions, with all divisions battling it out for contest results, prizes and their rankings on the SAST. The Rip Curl GromSearch contests are all premier SAST events, with 1,000 points for the winners, and prize money as per all premier events.

The Rip Curl GromSearch Scottburgh contest is a Surfing South Africa tournament supported by Sea Harvest.
