Reunion Island: The 2024 Indian Ocean Cup surfing tournament in Reunion Island was a triumph for South African surfers. Dan Emslie from East London emerged victorious, with Anastasia Venter (JBay) and Zoe Steyn securing second and third places in the Women’s division, respectively.

The Indian Ocean Cup was a thrilling international tournament featuring competitors from South Africa, India, Mauritius, and Reunion Island. In the Men’s Final, Emslie outperformed Anbarasu Kishore from India, Dhanasekaran Srikanth (India), and Eliott Royer from La Reunion, securing the top spot.

What A Treat

“Super stoked to win the Indian Ocean Cup here in Reunion”, said Emslie. “The waves were really fun. We were surfing this perfect little left reef, super shallow, clear blue water; what a treat. It was a great confidence booster, and it helped me see where my backhand surfing is, coming from Nahoon. It has been great working with Liam, with his coaching and strategies. He has been a major asset to the South African team.”

International Cup

Emslie, Venter, Steyn, and team member Lorenzo Perels are now competing in the Coup De Surf Francophonie International Cup, which will run over the next few days. The contest is currently on hold as tropical cyclone Bheki is passing south of the island, bringing in some inclement weather.
