Rory Dace and Anastasia Venter win premium U18 Divisions at Cape Town Surf Pro in Muizenberg
Rory Dace from Cape St Francis and Anastasia Venter of Melkbosstrand won the premium U18 Boys and Girls titles respectively at the inaugural Cape Town Surf Pro, which was completed in contestable Surfers Corner conditions at Muizenberg yesterday (Sunday April 16th).
Simon Winter of Kommetjie came second to Dace in the U18 Boys Final with Kieran Murphy of Llandudno taking third place. Jack Erlank of Gqberha was fourth. Muizenberg local, Angelica Rosslind was second behind Venter in the U18 Girls Final and Demi Rowe of Durban came third.
In the competitive U16 Boys Division Kieran Murphy won his maiden SA Surf Tour event when he beat Josh Malherbe of Coffee Bay to take gold in the Final. Levi Kolnik of Kommetjie came third and Xavier Van der Merwe of Somerset West was fourth. Emily Jenkinson of Llandudno won the first of her two gold medals when she claimed victory in the U16 Girls Final. Anastasia Venter came second, Angelica Rosslind was third, Nina Bone of Strand took fourth place and Jasmine Venter of Melkbosstrand was fifth.
Nathan Tayler, who travelled all the way from Ballito in KZN to compete in this event, took the honours in the U14 Final. Kommetjie surfers Adam Faclier and Ashbjorn Gwenin were second and third respectively with Ben Esterhuyse of Camps Bay taking fourth spot. Emily Jenkinson added the U14 title to her U16 victory when she beat Jasmine Venter into second place in this division. Nina Bone was third and Charlotte Copson of Kommetjie came fourth.
Marcello Zedde, who also made the long journey from Northern KZN to compete in this event, won the U12 Boys title with Sebastian Copson of Kommetjie taking second spot ahead of Harry Walton of Cape Town. Benji Paul of Sun Valley, grandson of legendary Western Province surfer and Lifestyle Surf Shop owner Tich Paul, secured a fourth place in his first SA Surf Tour event. Charlotte Copson won the U12 Girls final beating Emma Loggenberg of the Strand into second place.

The 2023 Cape Town Surf Pro was a Sea Harvest SA Surf Tour event offered prize -money across the Divisions and ratings points on the league table. The event was supported by the City of Cape Town and presented by Accelerate Sport.
The three day contest was held over three days in contestable conditions at Surfers Corner at Muizenberg. It attracted a solid entry of just over 80 boys and girls in the U12, U14, U16 and U18 Divisions.
Surfing South Africa is the governing body for the sport and is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
