Dairy Beach in Durban hosts the return of the Quiksilver King of the Groms
It has been a few years but it has been worth the wait as the popular Quiksilver King of the Groms takes place at Durban’s Dairy Beach from Friday to Sunday (March 20th to 22nd) for the first time in 17 years.
The Quiksilver King of the Groms is the second event on the 2026 SA Junior Surf Tour (SAST) and well over 100 surfers in the U12 to U18 Divisions will be competing in the three day contest.
The skills of South Africa’s best girls and boys in the U12, U14, U16 and U18 Divisions will be on display over the three days and they will be competing for a share of the R35000 prize money and valuable ratings points on the SAST.
The King of the Groms contest will provide another unique first on the SAST as surfers who won their divisions at the first event in Cape Town will compete in the coveted Yellow Jersey depicting the number one.
The Yellow Jersey competitors are Matt Canning and Emily Jenkinson (U18 Boy & Girl), Ben Esterhuyse and Leah Lepront (U16 Boy and Girl), Maya Malherbe (U14 Girl) and Cody Painter and Adriana Canning (U12 Boy and Girl).
The Durban event is a welcome back to Quiksilver who has supported Surfing South Africa for three decades. Not only did they sponsor the King of the Groms for SA Surfing’s juniors to show their talent but they also supported the South African Open Championships from 1996 to 2010. Quiksilver were also the sponsors of the 2002 International Surfing Association World Surfing Games and the inaugural ISA World Junior Championships in 2003. Both of these events took place along the Durban beachfront.

The contest will get under way at midday on Friday and at 7.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
